Tulln Air Base,
now Fliegerhorst Brumowski, was located deep in the Russian Occupation Zone
and approximately 21 miles west-northwest of Vienna (WIEN), Austria and
just south of the Danube River next to the village of Langenlebarn. The
famous "Vienna Woods" lie between Tulln and Vienna. The shortest
route from the base to Vienna was over the hills and through the woods,
but this road was usually closed by Soviet troops. The other routes were
along the Danube by the way of Klosterneuburg or by going south to the main
Linz-Vienna highway.
