Raja Bhoj Airport (Hindi: राजा भोज विमानतल, भोपाल) (IATA: BHO, ICAO: VABP) is the domestic airport serving Bhopal in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is located in Bairagarh suburban area which lies 15 km (9.3 mi) north-west of Bhopal city center on National Highway 12. Plans
Operating on domestic routes, Raja Bhoj Airport will become an international airport during 2010 with initial flights operating to the Middle East. It would be the third international airport in central India after Nagpur, Maharashtra & Indore.
Direct Haj flight from Bhopal to Jeddah
Haj pilgrims would now be able to avail a direct Air India flight from Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. An important phase in the already underway process of upgrading Raja Bhoj Airport at par with international standards with the foundation laying of the state of the art Integrated Terminal Building. The modern complex with all the facilities available in other international airports is likely to be completed very soon. The swanky complex is likely to cost around Rs 126 crore.
The plan is to increase the runway length in two stages, first to 9,000 ft (2,700 m) and then later to 11,500 ft (3,500 m).
New integrated terminal building construction is in full swing, and plans for flights operating to South Asian Countries is also in the pipeline. The new terminal foundation stone was laid on 20 February,2009.
