The building (3 floors, 7300 square meters) was designed to handle up to 800 thousand passengers a year. It is a remarkable step towards sustainable development if compared to the old one of 2000 square meters building, which reached its maximum capacity in 2006 due to natural growth of the demand of travelling by air. Further terminal extension is planned up to 15000 square meters with 3 ml annual throughput. First phase of terminal expansion was finished on 31st of March 2008. The facilities offer a whole range of services for travellers’ convenience: bars and restaurant, shopping area, tourist information centre, VIP zone. The main task given to the architects - to design a simple and easy terminal, understandable for everybody and still holding some charming elements - to have a small local piece of art. Original architectural ideas were realized in the exterior of the building with modern combination of glass and concrete inside. Presently Kaunas Airport is expanding its services and welcomes private local and foreign direct investments for development of the infrastructure projects on site. The airport covers over 500 hectares of land with all the necessary communications in place to construct:
