Incidents and accidents
- On January 31, 2000, Alaska Airlines Flight 261, a McDonnell Douglas MD-83, originating in Puerto Vallarta en route to San Francisco and Seattle-Tacoma, crashed after the horizontal stabilizer jammed and caused the aircraft to dive into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California while attempting to divert to Los Angeles. All 88 passengers and crew on board died.
