Chinggis Khaan International Airport (Mongolian: Чингис хаан олон улсын нисэх онгоцны буудал) is the international airport serving Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It is 18 km southwest of the capital. It is the largest international air facility in the country. The airport is the main base of operations for national carriers MIAT Mongolian Airlines, Eznis Airways and Aero Mongolia. History
Regular flights from the airport started in 1961, and the terminal was upgraded to make it suitable for international traffic in 1986. Between 1994 and 1997 a further major upgrade was achieved with help from the Asian Development Bank. Formerly known as Buyant Ukhaa Airport, the airport was renamed as Chinggis Khaan (Genghis Khan) International Airport to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the establishment of a Mongolian State on December 21, 2005.
