Båtsfjord Airport (IATA: BJF, ICAO: ENBS) (Norwegian: Båtsfjord lufthavn) is a small regional airport serving Båtsfjord in Finnmark, Norway. The airport is connected to the town centre by route 894. BJF is operated by Avinor and had 10,110 passengers in 2004. The airport has a single asphalt runway with a landing distance of 1000 m and numbered 03/21. The terminal includes the airport's control tower and can handle about 120 passengers per hour. The apron can comfortably accommodate 3 Dash 8 aircraft. All services from the airport are operated by Wideroe with Dash-8-100 aircraft. All routes, though not nessesarilly direct, fly to either Kirkenes Airport, Hoybuktmoen, Hammerfest Airport and Tromso Airport. From Kirkenes Airport, Hoybuktmoen there is direct flights to Southern Norway. The routes to Båtsfjord are operated on a public service obligation with the Norwegian Government. HistoryThe first airport opened in Båtsfjord as part of the construction of a regional airport network in Northern Norway in 1978. But because of safety regulations a new airport had to be constructed, and the new airport opened on October 29, 1999. The old Båtsfjord Airport was the last airport to be serviced with Twin Otter aircraft by Wideroe, all other regional lines switching to Dash 8 in the mid 1990s.
