Braathens regional airline Busy Bee and Norwegian Air Shuttle also operated Fokker 50. In 1978 the airport was handed over to the government. A new passenger terminal opened in the early 1990s. In 2005 the airport got permanent international status, and now has a duty free shop in the departure area. Extension of the runway to 1,980 meters LDA and 2,050 meters TORA has been finished as of Oct 2008, along with other improvements, including an upgrade of the terminal with a new arrival and baggage claim area including a new duty free shop.
