Non-Certificated Aerodrome 3NM SE of Feilding at an elevation of 214 feet.
Feilding (yes, the spelling is correct!) is an attractive rural New Zealand town of approximately 13,500 people.
Located on the west bank of the Oroua River some 155km north of Wellington and 20 km north of Palmerston North, it's central location means easy access to four seaports and seven airports.
The town, although small, has a world-wide reputation as a centre for stock and breeding. Its saleyards, which provide an outlet for cattle, sheep and deer, are among the largest in New Zealand (and indeed the Southern Hemisphere!).
Feilding was developed as part of the early settlement of the Manchester Block. Early settlers, who were mostly city folk from Liverpool and Manchester in the U.K., arrived in January 1874 to find most of the flat land covered in dense forest and swamp. Those first settlers exhibited much stamina and courage, carving a living out of the untamed landscape.
Colonel William Feilding purchased 106,000 acres in 1871 and 1880 immigrants moved to the region. The principal town was named after Colonel Feilding and was constituted as a borough on 7 July 1881.
Feilding has a wide range of industries. Traditionally the meat processing plants provided the major employment base for the workforce in the town but the development of the agricultural processing industry now offers further scope for employment and diversification.
Feilding Aerodrome is a small airfield situated between Palmerston Nth and Ohakea in New Zealand. It is used for light aircraft, microlites, gliders, agricultural, sky divers, etc.
Wanganui Manawatu Gliding Club is on Feilding Aerodrome.
