Statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. |
Mindoro Airport (Filipino: Paliparan ng Mindoro, Ilokano: Pagtayaban ti Mindoro) (IATA: VGN, ICAO: RPUQ), also known as Vigan Airport, is the airport serving the general area of Vigan City, the capital of the province of Ilocos Sur, in the Philippines. The airport is the only airport in Ilocos Sur. It is classified as a community airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, a body of the Department of Transportation and Communications that is responsible for the operations of not only this airport but also of all other airports in the Philippines except the major international airports. The airport is located in the city's Barangay Mindoro, hence the name.
Previously, the airport was considered a "sleeping asset" for the city of Vigan, since no revenue was generated from the airport's operations. Plans have been formulated to expand and modernize the airport, in part to "enlighten" the boredom of traveling to Vigan from Manila and other cities and towns by bus, as well as to develop the city's burgeoning tourism industry. This was achieved with the introduction of scheduled service to Vigan on March 19, 2009.

A resolution passed by the Vigan city council called on Philippine Airlines to launch flights to the city, citing that Lucio Tan is an adopted son of Ilocos Sur. It is likely that PAL Express, using Bombardier Q300 aircraft, will start service to the city. It is unknown whether PAL Express will take action. However, Interisland Airlines began service to Vigan on March 19, 2009.
