Plymouth City Airport - your gateway to Devon and Cornwall, and your departure point for worldwide connections via Gatwick, Manchester or Bristol.

History:

Plymouth Airport can trace its roots back to the early days of commercial flying. In fact the birth of the airport can be dated to 1923 when the first passengers joined a flight carrying mail to Croydon from a grass strip at Chelson Meadow. This successful flight, under the command of legendary air pioneer Alan Cobham inspired Plymouth City Council to look for a permanent site for the city’s airport.

In 1925 the now popular service, helping to speed transatlantic mail from the local port to the Capital, was moved to Roborough.

Plymouth Airport had found its home and was given the Royal seal of approval with an official opening in July 1931 by the Prince of Wales.

The aircraft operator’s names have changed over the decades. Who remembers Western Air Express, Olley’s Air Service or Railway Air Services?

Now in a new century air travel is no novelty but an essential part of West Country business life. The modern Plymouth City Airport provides business and private travellers with regular scheduled services to various parts of the UK including London Gatwick as well as Cork and Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.

Information:

This small yet modern airport caters to over 100,000 passengers annually and offers scheduled flights across the UK and selected European cities.

It consists of a single terminal handling all flights, open from 06:30 - 22:00 year round. There are no banking or currency services, although you will find baby change rooms and telephones.

There is a cafe in the main terminal offering meals, snacks, refreshments and a bar service, while shopping is limited to a small number of stores, including a newsagent.

An executive lounge provides a range of facilities for business travelers.

Facilities for disabled passengers include dedicated parking, wide entry and exit points, and specially designed toilets, while the single level makes getting around easy.

The information desk is located in the main terminal.

Taxi is the easiest way to get into Plymouth city centre from the airport (TaxiFast: 01752 222222). Plymouth train station offers regular services to London. Buses into Plymouth run from nearby Derriford Road, provided by First Western National (ph: + 44 (0) 1752 402060) and Plymouth City Bus (ph: + 44 (0) 1752 222221).
