The fields were overgrown and the fences were invisible strands of rust and broken posts behind the screens of cedar and multiflora roses. The pond was choked with weeds and the levy overgrown by brush. The old house was a charred ruin, having been burned by vandals, and the old barn leaned to the east at about 45 degrees. The pastures were 15 feet high in persimmon sprouts and wild roses. After several years of intense work, the land has returned to health and now sustains a beautiful herd of Scots Highland cattle. The ponds are clean and filled with a healthy population of fish, the pasture is again productive (in the years it rains!) and peace reigns on the farm. Gladys and Jarrell live in their new home, surrounded by three acres of manicured lawn and garden, including blackberry vines, peach trees, and a hedge of sage underneath the weathervane. From the back porch you can see the vista of the entire farm. Morgan and Joyce reside back "in the woods" in their home surrounded by trees. The airport runway bisects the property, and the aircraft hangar nestles underneath the trees. On any given day there may be antique aircraft and/or ox carts on the runway --- depending on which group is having a get-together. In 2001 we were joined by Terry "Grizz" Hayhurst, and his wife, Anastasia, and David Howlett. Grizz and David are learning to fly and to work on aircraft, and Ana is the "ranch cook."
