Provo Municipal Airport (IATA: PVU, ICAO: KPVU) is a public airport located two miles (3 km) southwest of the city of Provo in Utah County, Utah, USA. It is currently the second busiest public airport in Utah in terms of aircraft movements, with 172,000 logged aircraft operations in a twelve month period ending in May 2007.
The airport is mostly used for general aviation purposes, and currently no commercial airlines offer scheduled flights to the airport. Salt Lake City International Airport (approximately 40 miles (64 km) north) is the closest airport with commercial air service. However, in the 1970s SkyWest Airlines did offer service to the airport from 1974-1975.
The airport has one fixed base operator. The airport is extensively used for flight training and is home to flight schools, including one operated by Utah Valley University (UVU Aviation Science). History
The airport's Air Traffic Control Tower opened in 2005. Previously, the airport was uncontrolled. When the control tower opened, the nearby airspace was converted to Class D airspace, encompassing a radius of 4 nautical miles (7.4 km) around the airport and up to 7,000 feet (2,100 m) MSL (2500 feet AGL), with a circular cutout in the southern portion surrounding nearby Spanish Fork-Springville Airport, which was not converted to Class D.
